# Viking Refrigerator Warranty and Parts

Two years covers the whole refrigerator, the sealed system runs longer, and the plate inside the cabinet decides which filter or part is right.

A door that sits out of square lets humid air past the gasket, and the coil frosts to match.

Viking covers a refrigerator in full for two years, counted from the purchase date or the new-construction closing, whichever gives you the longer run. After that, the sealed system keeps going on its own. On integrated, built-in and freestanding models, the compressor, evaporator, condenser, connecting tubing and dryer/strainer get parts and labor in years 3 through 6, then parts only in years 7 through 12. For anything outside the sealed system after year two, read your own warranty paperwork before assuming it is covered.

## The coverage, window by window

It helps to picture three separate clocks. The shortest is ninety days for cosmetic defects, meaning a dent, scratch or panel flaw that was already there when the unit was delivered. Handling and installation damage is excluded, and the flaw must be reported to the selling dealer inside those ninety days. Inspect every face on delivery day.

The middle clock is the two years of full coverage, which takes in refrigeration, wine cellars and ice machines in normal home use.

The long clock is the sealed system, and the type of unit decides how long it runs. Column, built-in and freestanding refrigerators get the twelve-year arrangement above. Anything in the Undercounter & Wine Refrigeration, Ice Machine category gets sealed-system parts and labor in years 3 through 6 and nothing after that. An undercounter wine unit installed next to a built-in refrigerator can therefore lose coverage six years earlier than its neighbour.

## What rules a unit out

Coverage applies only to products bought in the United States or Canada and serviced in the country where they were sold. B-stock, liquidation, salvage, seconds, refurbished, as-is and used units are excluded, so a scratch-and-dent bargain may arrive with no manufacturer coverage at all.

Commercial use is out as well. A 90-day parts-and-labor Residential Plus warranty reaches code-compliant settings such as a bed and breakfast, a fire station, a church or a condo common area, while restaurants get nothing.

The warranty passes to a new owner only through the sale of the home, and registration is not needed for coverage. If nobody can produce a receipt or a registration, Viking takes the production date coded into the serial number as the start date, which always comes before the day the unit was first switched on.

## Find the plate before anything else

Every warranty call and parts order starts with the model and serial plate. On 5 Series built-in refrigerators it sits high on the interior wall, behind the lighting. On VEIL integrated FDREIC, FDFZIC and FDBMIC7360 units, look inside the refrigerator compartment on the wall across from the door opening. Photograph it rather than copying it by hand.

VEIL doors hang on a Double Pivot Hinge that allows as little as a 1/8-inch reveal, so even a small sag shows. In a Jacksonville summer, a door that no longer closes square pulls in humid air and frosts the coil.

## Filters, bulbs and the genuine part

Filters are what most owners reorder, and Viking uses different cartridges across its lines:

- 7 Series integrated refrigerators and freezers take RWFDISP. It twists out a quarter turn counterclockwise at the lower right behind the door; press the lit FILTER button afterward.

- The 3 Series RVFFR336 French-door takes RWFRVFFR, changed every 6 months. Hold Alarm Off for 3 seconds to clear the icon.

- FDREIC all-refrigerators take RWFIC. Swap it at 3,000 litres (792.6 gal) or after 12 months, whichever is sooner; the display then reads Replace filter.

- Older built-ins under manual F20413, such as VCSB423 and VCBB363, want a fresh cartridge every nine months or 750 gallons, whichever arrives first, then three minutes of flushing through the dispenser.

- On a 7 Series VRI all-refrigerator, a Bluezone strip on the display calls for bulb kit RBZB7; hold the refrigerator selector key 3 seconds to clear it.

Aftermarket cartridges cost less and often look identical, but one may seal a fraction loose or let water slip around the media. Genuine OEM parts are made to the same drawing the cabinet was built around. For a fan motor, defrost heater or control board, match the part to the full model number, not to a photo of the old one, because look-alike parts can differ between production runs.

## When the repair falls outside coverage

Past year two, most warm-refrigerator calls are not sealed-system failures. A fan or defrost fault typically runs $240–$650, with the firm figure given after the $80 diagnostic. A genuine compressor or sealed-system repair typically lands at $1,010–$2,360. Between years 7 and 12 on a built-in, Viking’s part is covered but fitting it is not, so confirm the part’s coverage with Viking before the work is booked.

We are an independent shop, not part of Viking’s own service network. While the refrigerator is inside its two-year window, start with Viking’s own warranty service. Once it is past that, the built-in refrigeration page walks through warm boxes, iced coils and drifting doors, and the pricing page lists the typical ranges.

What it costs

## What does this fault cost to put right?

The visit and the whole diagnostic sequence are $80 flat, and that comes
off the bill the moment you approve the work.
Repairs of this kind have run $240–$2,360 in parts and labor after that, and the figure on your estimate
is written down before a part is ordered.

The bands this page lands in, parts and labor together.

| Work | Parts and labor |
| --- | --- |
| $80 diagnostic | Flat, credited toward the repair |
| Refrigeration fan or defrost system | $240–$650 |
| Compressor or sealed-system repair | $1,010–$2,360 |

A band is where the work has landed, not a quote. You get a written estimate before any part is ordered or any tool comes out. 90 days on labor, 365 days on parts.
The whole table is on the pricing page.

Asked on the phone

## What do owners ask when it does this?

- What does the repair this note describes cost?: $80 flat to come out and find the fault, and that comes off the bill the moment you approve the repair. Past that the job lands in a band: refrigeration fan or defrost system $240–$650, compressor or sealed-system repair $1,010–$2,360. You get a written estimate before any part is ordered or any tool comes out. Every repair carries 90 days on labor and 365 days on parts.

- Is an appliance that keeps doing this worth repairing?: Set the band against what the replacement costs: professional range, the usual repair-or-replace comparison $6,500–$14,500; built-in refrigerator or column $9,500–$17,500; built-in dishwasher $1,600–$3,200. Those are appliance-only figures, before delivery, fitting or cabinetry, which is why a repair inside the bands above usually wins by a wide margin. Where it does not, we say so at the diagnostic rather than quote the work.

- How long is the repair covered?: 90 days on labor and 365 days on parts from the invoice date. Genuine OEM parts only. If the fault we repaired comes back inside the term, the return visit is ours and there is no second diagnostic fee. A different fault in the same appliance is a new diagnosis and we tell you that on site.

- Do you work on anything other than Viking?: No. Viking Range, LLC builds kitchen appliances — ranges, rangetops, wall ovens, built-in refrigeration, ventilation hoods and dishwashers — and that equipment is the whole of what this shop takes in. One make means the parts on the van, the manuals and the failure patterns are the ones we see every week. We are an independent repair shop.

Freezer drawer was frosting over on one side and nowhere else. He found the drain heater open circuit and a slab of ice sitting on the coil, cleared it, and fitted the part. It has held clear right through the summer.

- ★★★★★

The fresh side of the column drifted warm while the freezer stayed hard. He found an evaporator fan that only turned when it felt like it, fitted a new one, and waited to watch the temperature come back down.

Delphine R.2026-09-12

- ★★★★☆

The door alarm kept sounding when nobody was near it. A sagging gasket on the left side was breaking the seal just enough. He fitted a new one, checked the closer, and the kitchen is quiet at night.
